The Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol County Hurling and Camogie Finals will take place on Thursday June 7th and Friday June 8th, in Semple Stadium Thurles. These are the dates agreed with the Semple Stadium Committee. They have put these dates into their book and will put them up on the Semple Stadium Website. There is a Munster Senior Football match in Semple Stadium on 26th May. Community Games are in the Stadium on June 4th. There is a Munster Senior hurling match there on 27th May with the backup replay date of June 3rd. There is a Munster Senior hurling championship match there on June 17th with the replay back up date of June 23rd. Therefore the 7th and 8th of June are the suitable dates for our County Finals. Schools should book school tours with these dates in mind. There shouldn't be any change to the dates, unlike last year. The Stadium Committee said that the Munster Council can put in matches at a late stage but that the 7th and 8th of June will be ok for Allianz Cumann na mBunscol's County Finals. The Handball issue has been resolved (just at the weekend) and there will be no change to the Handball Competition format this year. It will be run the very same way as last year. The Handball entry forms will be sent to schools as soon as possible. Just a reminder to schools that there will be no INTO Mini Sevens Competitions this year (as was decided by the Officer Board in September). A draw will be made by the Officer Board within the next few weeks of all schools who registered with us (by paying the 30 euro registration fee). The schools that come out of the hat will get to choose a player to go to Croke Park to play in the Mini Sevens exhibition match during the All Ireland Series. Schools who fail to pay the fee will not be put into the draw. The Primary Game 2012 Selection information will be sent to all schools, by post and by email, very shortly. Gradings and Fixtures will be sent to schools by email ONLY from now on. Any school who hasn't given us their email address may do so by emailing, with it, as soon as possible. The 2012 Under 13 Hurling and Camogie Fixtures will be emailed to schools next week. The Under 11 fixtures will be emailed to schools within the next few weeks.

The Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol AGM for 2012 took place in Hayes Hotel Thurles, on Monday 23rd January; at 7.30 pm. Chairman Paddy Kelly welcomed everyone to the meeting. The Standing Orders were adopted, proposed by Joe Carmody and seconded by Joe McCarthy. The delegates then read through the minutes of last year’s AGM, which were presented in the 2012 AGM booklet. The minutes were proposed by Donal McCarthy and seconded by Kieran Healy. The new Tipperary County Board Chairman Sean Nugent then addressed the meeting. He said it was a pleasure to be in the famous Hayes Hotel establishment. He complimented the meeting on its excellent attendance. He said the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol activities are very well advertised in Tipperary, that people like the good publicity and like reading about Allianz Cumann na mBunscol activities in the local newspapers. He said the first contact young people have of playing Gaelic games is in the Primary schools. He continued by saying that teachers do great work in promoting Gaelic games, and that the County Board appreciate all the teachers’ hard work. He said the schools play a huge role in the GAA. He also thanked Dinny Maher, the Games Promotion Manager, and all the GDAs. He said the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol officers do fantastic work and this is greatly appreciated by the County Board. He finished by thanking the Officer Board for the invite to the AGM, and by wishing Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol all the very best for 2012. Secretary Aodan Wrenn then went through the correspondence. He followed this up by going through his Secretary’s Report for 2011, as was outlined in the AGM Booklet. The Secretary’s Report was proposed by Marianne Anderson, and seconded by Julie Kirwan. Treasurer and Equipment Officer Jerry McDonnell then went through his Treasurer’s Report. It was very comprehensive as usual. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol’s finances are in a healthy position and he said we can look forward to 2012 with confidence. P.R.O John Manley then went through his P.R.O Report. It was very comprehensive. He thanked the teachers who sent him e-mails, with match reports, throughout the year. He said the Young Journalists scheme is proving to be very popular and successful as is the Player of the Week article (which runs 52 weeks of the year in the local newspapers). John said the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol web-site has a new lay-out and looks very nice. He continued by saying that all the weekly Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol reports are on the National Allianz Cumann na mBunscol web-site: He thanked the GDAs for their help on County Final days and throughout the year, the newspaper editors for publishing our weekly reports, the schools for sending in team sheets on time before County Finals. He said we are deeply grateful to the Tipperary GAA Yearbook for giving us 10 pages in the Yearbook this year. He congratulated Anacarty N.S for winning an award at the National Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Awards this year. He also thanked Allianz and Cornmarket for sponsoring the National Awards, and Allianz for their continued financial support to Cumann ma mBunscol. He finished by thanking Michael Trehy for his work at the County Finals with DVD production, and Paddy Finucane who always gives Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol good publicity on his GAA show on Tipp FM radio. John also mentioned that Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol is now on Twitter and a number of schools are currently following us. The PRO Report was proposed by Kieran Healy and seconded by Joe Carmody. Next up was Paddy Kelly’s Chairman’s Address. He thanked the following:

1. Brian Boyle for acting as Chairman last year while Paddy was on Career break in Australia.

2. His fellow Officers who do excellent work for Allianz Cumann na mBunscol.

3. Primary Game selectors, GDAs, teachers and Blitz Co-ordinators.

4. Paddy Collins for running our Handball competitions.

5. The County Board, Allianz, Munster Council, Croke Park and Munster Allianz Cumann na mBunscol for their financial support.

6. The Semple Stadium Committee for allowing us use the Stadium on County Final days.

7. All our referees and GAA field caretakers.

8. Retiring teachers who have given so much to Allianz Cumann na mBunscol. In particular he wished Donal McCarthy well in retirement. He said Donal gave so much to Allianz Cumann na mBunscol in his role as Secretary for many years, and as Primary Game Officer, Coaching and Games delegate (and as a Primary Game hurling and Camogie Selector).

Paddy said that paying the 30 euro registration fee is vital, and all schools must pay this fee. He finished by wishing all teachers, and all schools, the very best for 2012.

The Chairman’s Address was proposed by Viv Dooley and seconded by Michael Hayes. Next Dinny Maher, the Coaching and Games Promotion Manager for Tipperary, addressed the meeting. He thanked the officers and teachers for their excellent co-operation. He said the Primary School Coaching scheme is a huge venture. He said 250,000euros has been spent on it. Dinny said that his team are fully committed to it. He said this year they will run indoor hurling and camogie blitzes, and also a school’s skills competition. More information will be available on these ventures very shortly. He finished by saying that they will run a Teacher’s GAA Foundation Level Coaching Course, for Primary teachers, this Summer.

The meeting then went through the Election of Officers. Kieran Healy replaced Brian Boyle as Vice Chairman. Brian had to leave the position as he has taken up a Principal’s position in Galmoy N.S in Co. Kilkenny. Michael Heffernan replaced Liam Bergin on the Coiste Gearrán. Liam had stated that he wished to stand down from the position for personal reasons. Julie Kirwan replaced Donal McCarthy as Primary Game Camogie Selector, as Donal wished to stand down due to his imminent retirement from the teaching profession. Chairman Paddy Kelly wished all those who were newly elected the very best for the coming year.

The Motions were next on the agenda. There was a very good debate on the Motions and the meeting was satisfied with the outcome of each Motion. The major points arising from the motions were that :

1. The football competitions will be completed by Halloween each year.

2. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol will be seeking a small voluntary contribution of one euro from adults, not involved with competing schools, when entering Semple Stadium on County Finals days.

3. That schools failing to fulfil fixtures on time, or deliberately delaying competition, or failing to play their matches, will be immediately thrown out of that competition.

The meeting then went through the Gradings, and dealt with those seeking re-grading. All bar two schools were happy with their grading. The Chairman said that those who wished to appeal their grading could do so by sending a letter of appeal to the Secretary, to be with him within seven days. Those two schools would also be looked at first next year when the time comes to grade the schools again. The County Finals dates were not decided upon because the Officers were waiting to discuss the matter with the County Board and Munster Council , because of potential clashes with Munster Senior Championship matches in Semple Stadium, in early June. The Officer Board of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol stated that the dates for the County Finals would be relayed to all schools at the earliest convenience. Chairman Paddy Kelly then closed the meeting, wishing everyone a safe journey home, and conveying best wishes to everyone in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol for 2012.

Our hurling/camogie competitions are expected to commence during the coming weeks. Entry forms can be downloaded from the website. Please return your school’s completed entry form to Aodan Wrenn, St. Michael’s N.S, Clerihan, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary if you have not already done so.
