Well Done To The Tipp Minor Footballers

Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol extends our heartiest congratulations to Tipperary's All Ireland Minor Football Winning Team. It is Tipperary's first title since 1934. Comhghairdeas.

Good Start To Year For Clerihan N.S. By Aodan Wrenn

The date was Thursday 22nd of September. It was the start of a new football season. The beginning of the Cumann na mBunscol season for Clerihan National School. Clerihan N.S Under 13 footballers took on Ardfinnan N.S, in an under 13 challenge match in sunny Ardfinnan. A few weeks training had been done, and it was time to get out onto the pitch, and get rid of the rustiness that was bound to be in place after the summer break. It was important for Clerihan to get match time for their players, to build up match fitness and sharpness, ahead of the Championship. The challenge match proved to be very worthwhile as all 22 players on the panel got game time, and the opportunity to show their hand, ahead of the tough series of Championship games that await them. This year Clerihan will be competing in Roinn C of the Championship, and this is the highest grade they have ever competed in. Last year was a great year for the school, winning the Roinn D County Title. This year the school will be in much more difficult surroundings, and will need to be at 100 percent for EVERY game to have any chance of progressing to the knock out stages. The players know that, and have been working very hard in training. The challenge match against Ardfinnan was an exciting game, with a lot of good football evident. The final score was Clerihan 3-7 Ardfinnan 3-3. Both teams were pleased with their performance in their first outing of the season. We would like to wish our near neighbours in Ardfinnan the very best of luck in their championship, in Roinn D. Next up for Clerihan is the first round of the Championship. It will take place next Tuesday, September 27th. Their opponents are Fethard. The venue is Clerihan Community pitch. Best of luck to Clerihan, in that match, and in the season ahead. Thanks to Ardfinnan GAA Club for allowing us use their fine pitch for the game. Clerihan team and panel were as follows: Jason McCully, Callum Meagher, Cathal Ryan, Shane Hickey, Shane Buckley, Cian Mullane, Eoin Power, Daniel Fitzpatrick, Riain Quigley, Billy Norris, Seamus McMahon, Liam McGrath. Daniel Browne, Ben Keating Hogan, Jamie Trehy, Danny Fortune, Damien Cahill, John Mulcahy, Joey Fortune, Cian Purcell, Dean O'Dwyer, Oliver Ryan.

Well done to Dualla NS on their wonderful display on Friday versus Leugh NS. Every player on the panel received “game time”. It was a hugely entertaining spectacle. Special mention must be given to Dualla NS Captain for the day Cormac Gleeson, who finished the match with a very impressive tally of 3-02. It was a very sporting contest and all our children acquitted themselves very well. Many thanks to Leugh NS for travelling over to Dualla for the game.
