Since the introduction of the Primary Game in 1996, many boys and girls from Tipperary have got to showcase their talents on the biggest stage of all during Munster Senior Hurling and Football matches. Indeed, it was only a few years ago that many of this year’s victorious Munster Minor Football Championship winning side first paraded their talents in the Tipperary Primary Game Football team. Current senior inter-county hurlers Noel McGrath and Michael Heffernan got their first taste of inter-county action when they represented the Tipperary Primary Game Hurling Team. Indeed, Noel’s younger brother Brian McGrath followed in his footsteps when representing Tipperary against Cork a few weeks ago. Sunday’s Tipperary Primary Game Teams have strong links with previous teams and indeed with former Tipperary greats. Ronan Tucker of Youghalarra NS is a cousin of Kevin Tucker who played wing forward for Tipperary against Clare in the 1997 Munster Hurling Final. Ciaran Kelly Kildangan NS is a son of Eamon Kelly who played for the Tipperary Junior Hurlers and has served as a selector for various Tipperary teams. Liam Maher CBS Nenagh is a brother of Rachel Maher St. Mary’s Nenagh who played for the Tipperary Primary Game hurlers in 2010 against Cork. Tipperary Primary Game Camogie goalie Elizabeth Floyd Burgess NS is a daughter of Co. Board Secretary Timmy Floyd. Sarah Stakelum Scoil Angela is a cousin of Clare who played in the very first Primary Game Team. Clodagh Horgan Boherlahan NS is a daughter of former Tipp Player Brian Horgan who captained Tipperary to the 1995 All Ireland Under 21 Hurling Title. Incidentally, Moira Kinnane of Rossmore NS is a member of the National Racquetball Team and won a Silver Medal at the last world championships!

Current Tipperary Primary Game Hurling Selector Pat Buckley of Ayle NS has represented Tipperary hurlers at minor, Under 21 & Senior level. Pat also served as a County Minor Hurling Selector in 2009 & 2010. Current Tipperary Primary Game Camogie Selector Donall McCarthy of Ballylooby NS is a former Manager of the Tipperary Intermediate Hurling Team.
