This past year Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol has enjoyed great success as an organization.

Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol ran an extremely successful Hurling andCamogie Championship in 2014. These Championships culminated on the 6th and 7th of June last, at Semple Stadium, for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol County Finals.

We had two days of fantastic hurling and camogie, which produced very exciting Finals.

There were winner’s medals, and runners-up medals, for all panel members of the schoolscompeting in the Finals. Everyone who took part really enjoyed their day out in the Cathedral of Hurling, Semple Stadium.

The Under 11 Hurling and Camogie Championships were run in accordance with the2011 rule change about the implementation of Go Games, from the under 12 grade down. We organized Go Games Competitions for schools to play in the Under 11 grade, and created a competition for schools who wanted to enter two teams. The aim of this was to increase the number of children who get to play in all games. The rules were that all substitutes were to be brought on at half time. Players were not allowed to solo the ball. They could tap it on their hurley and then let it off. It made for very quick and exciting games. The number of schools competing in Under 11 Hurling has risen from 50 to over 90, in the 3 years that we’ve used the Go Games model.

In Under 11 Camogie the number of schools participating has risen from 17 to over 50. This is a serious increase in the number of schools playing, and the number of children who get to play in all games. The 2014 competitions were run off as Blitzes, as in the previous three years. When it came to the County Finals the Under 11 matches were played on a smaller sized pitch in Semple Stadium, with two matches going on at the same time. Schools have expressed their satisfaction with how the Go GamesCompetitions are going. There’s less pressure on the children to win, when they play in Go Games. The children enjoy playing in these Blitzes and we hope to continue to use this Model going forward. When it came to the County Finals all school mentors, both inUnder 11 and Under 13 games, wore the Respect Initiative bibs on the sideline.

All in all there were 28 County Finals, over two days, in Semple Stadium. Thankfully everything went very well thanks to the co-operation of the teachers, the schools, the GDAs, the TY Students (who helped with the scoreboard and as umpires/linesmen)the Semple Stadium ground-staff and the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Officer Board.

The Primary Game was a great success, once again, in 2014.

Tipperary lined out boys and girls football teams, in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, against Limerick on Saturday 31st of May. The young Tipperary boys and girls footballers played with pride, determination and skill.

In Hurling, and Camogie, Tipperary had a great day out in Semple Stadium Thurles, onSunday 1st of June in the Munster semi final. The young hurling and camogie players played really well on the day.

For all children it was their first time playing for mighty Tipperary and it is a day they will remember forever. All 44 children did themselves, their parents, their schools, their clubs and their county proud. Well done to each and every one of them!

Congratulations to all the children who pulled on that special Tipperary jersey this Summer for the first, but definitely not the last, time.

Sincere thanks to all our selectors who gave a huge commitment to the Primary Game this year.
