U11 FOOTBALL FIXTURES 2015

All schools should have received football fixtures for U11 championship and matches should be underway at this stage. We would ask that the timetable of matches be adhered to in as much as possible to as not to delay later rounds and finals. Finals are due to be played the first week after the Halloween midterm. Dates TBC. Go n-éirí le gach duine!

LISSENHALL BOOK THEIR PLACE IN THE NORTH FINAL

It was a day of nail-biting drama in Dolla on Wednesday as defending champions Lissenhall N.S. dramatically qualified for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol under 13 North Final. Lissenhall beat Boher in their first game by 2-8 to 0-2, Lissenhall drew with Ballinree 2-5 to 1-8 before Ballinree and Boher drew the last game of the blitz, 1-4 apiece, ensuring Lissenhall finished top of the three team group. In their first game, Lissenhall were more economical at taking their chances, with David Cunningham scorring from frees, and Luke O’Brien and Micháel Ryan-Prendiville scoring two opportunistic goals. Eoin Ryan, John Ryan and Robert Kenneally also added points. Boher showed great character throughout the game but couldn’t close the gap. In the second game of the blitz, Lissenhall and Ballinree went in level at half time, 1-4 to 1-4, David Cunningham scoring the goal. Ballinree started both halves strongly and were in danger of pulling away but a vital punched goal from John Ryan who found himself at the end of a flowing passing move, following some great play from his cousin Séan Ryan-Prendiville, put Lissenhall in front. Ballinree added two points to level the game and some heroic defending from Darragh Ryan, Conor Murphy and Cathal Treacy for Lissenhall and the entire Ballinree defence ensured the points were shared. In the final game, Ballinree and Boher couldn’t be separated, so Lissenhall progress to the final. Lissenhall Panel: Darragh Ryan, Conor Murphy, Séan Ryan Prendiville, Luke O’Brien, Cathal Treacy,  Eoin Ryan, David Cunningham, Micháel Ryan-Prendiville, John Ryan, Robert Kenneally, Jack Grace, Donagh McSherry, Morgan Connolly, Bobby O’ Connor, Cian Ryan-Moran.

FOOTBALLS AVAILABLE

Treasurer Jerry McDonnell has a limited supply of footballs that are available on at first come, first serve basis. They are available at the reduced equipment scheme rates. Contact Jerry on (052) 612 1431 ASAP if you wish to order any footballs.

MOUTHGUARDS

As the football season begins schools are reminded of the importance of mudguards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Both boys and girls playing in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football fixtures must wear mouth guards without exception at all times. It would be advised that schools would also use mouth guards when training to allow children to get used to using them and to follow best practice.

REPORTER OF THE WEEK

Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the football championships for the coming season. Reports can be a great writing topic for the classroom and are an opportunity for children to see their work published for a wider audience. In the pre-season championship build-up children could be given the chance to tell about their own training regiments and tips for the coming championship. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.
