MATCH REPORT St. Colmcille’s Templemore 6-08 Gaelscoil Dúrlas 2-01

On the second day of October, 31 boys from St. Colmcille's Templemore, travelled to Páirc Na Nóg in Thurles. We arrived in Páirc Na Nóg at half twelve and were togged out at quarter to one and ready for action. We did our warm up and before we knew it at one o clock the ball was thrown up between Michael Cahill, Ned Walsh and Gaelscoil’s two midfielders. We started off well and only for Eoin Collins’ great save we mightn’t have been 4-5 to 0-0 up at half time. We had some oranges and grapes while listening to Mr.Healy and Mr. Doyle’s wise words. We went into the second half confident we would win this game and we did. Before we knew it the final whistle went and we won 6-8 to 2-1. The team and scorers were Eoin Collins, Dayle Hogan, Eddie Corcoran and his cousin Tom Corcoran alongside him. The wing back line consisted of Cian Sheedy, Josh Quinlan and Cormac Foy. The midfield partnership included Ned Walsh 0-1 and Michael Cahill 1-0, the wing forwards were Daniel McAlister 0-1, Ned Delaney 2-3 and Glen Fennell, and last but not least were the full forward line of Jamie Ormond our free taker who scored 2 frees and 1 from play, David Kinane was the hat trick hero on his debut for the school while Jamie Monaghan was in the other corner. In the exhibition match we also won by 0-1 to 0-0. Robert Crampton scored the only point of the game. It was a great day and hopefully our winning form will continue. By Ned Delaney.

Fixtures for the upcoming football season have been sent to all school. Please ensure matches are played by the fixture deadline. We appreciate matches have been delayed due to recent weather conditions. We urge all schools to ensure matches are played promptly, especially if taking place after the Halloween break.

As the football season begins schools are reminded of the importance of mouth guards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Both boys and girls playing in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football fixtures must wear mouth guards without exception at all times. It would be advised that schools would also use mouth guards when training to allow children to get used to using them and to follow best practice.

A full list of registered schools for 2017 has been forwarded to all schools. Please ensure your registration is paid every year. Schools who do not pay registration cannot participate in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol activities including matches and the Equipment Scheme. Please note registration runs from January to January and not in line with the school year.

Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the football championships for the coming season. Reports can be a great writing topic for the classroom and are an opportunity for children to see their work published for a wider audience. In the pre-season championship build-up children could be given the chance to tell about their own training regiments and tips for the coming championship. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.
