RULE CLARIFICATIONS

After several queries on certain rules when playing in Cumann na mBunscol matches, a reminder was sent to schools in relation to play of the ball and square ball rules. For both football and ladies football at U-13 and U-11 only two plays of the ball are permitted, i.e. one hop and one solo OR two solos. In addition to this, schools are reminded that the square ball rule applies in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Finally, a reminder that girls can play on the boys football teams at U-11 and U-13 level but must follow boys rules.

MOUTHGUARDS

Schools are reminded of the importance of mouthguards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. All boys training for and playing Gaelic football must wear mouthguards at all times. Girls playing Ladies Football and training for Ladies Football are not obliged to wear mouthguards until the 1st of January 2014. However, girls playing football on boy's teams will have to wear mouthguards from now. For P.E. lessons undertaken by the teacher or un-organised football sessions, such as at break times, it is at the discretion of the school as to whether mouthguards are to be used.

MATCH REPORT U-13 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP DROM V BOHERLAHAN

Drom played Boherlahan in the Cumann na mBunScol on Thursday the 19th of September at 1pm. It was a home venue for Drom and referee was William Clohessy. The Drom line up was; in goal Diarmuid Brennan, the full back line was John Campion, Ben Stapleton and Dean Griffin. Midfield was James Kennedy, Paul Glasheen and Fintan Purcell and the forwards were Donncha Barry, Hugh Scott and Taryn Purcell. With a full panel of five subs that included Nathan Russell, Kate Fogarty, Bríd Hanrahan, Kirsty Quinlan and Caolán Walker who all had an important part to play. Drom showed great determination and most importantly teamwork. Scores came from Paul with one goal, Ben got 1-1, John 1-2, Donncha two goals and a goal from Fintan to round of the score. The opening half was a tight game but in the early stages Drom N.S. had goal disallowed but we fought back and Paul Glasheen got a great goal to open the score line and that is when Drom started to edge ahead. Boherlahan scored a fine goal to stay within reach of Drom. Halftime score was Drom 2-1 Boherlahan 1-1 with it all to play for. Boherlahan’s never give up attitude stood to them but Drom’s great passing skills and teamwork helped them to get the vital scores. All players gave 100% effort throughout and were delighted with the first win of 2013/14. F.T. score was Drom 6-3 Boherlahan 1-1. By Hugh Scott, Dylan Cody and Dean Griffin 6th Class Drom NS
